New Delhi: Two IndiGo flights scheduled to land in Indore were diverted to Bhopal on Tuesday after loose asphalt was discovered on a stretch of the runway during a routine inspection during ongoing recarpeting work.According to Indore Airport PRO, the maintenance and cleaning work was completed within 20 minutes, following which the runway was declared safe and flight operations resumed. “During a routine inspection, while runway resurfacing work was underway, some loose asphalt was discovered on a section of the runway surface. The civil engineering team rushed to the scene immediately and completed the required repairs and cleaning work within 20 minutes.” “After ensuring that the runway surface was safe and suitable for operations, the runway was handed over to air traffic control to resume flight operations. Due to the temporary disruption, two IndiGo flights 6E6605 (DEL-IDR) and 6E6219 (RPR-IDR) were diverted to Bhopal. Normal flight operations have since resumed.”Meanwhile, a fire broke out in a dry field in the non-operational area of the Indore airport in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday evening.Fire sub-inspector Roopchand Pandit said as soon as information about the fire was received, teams were deployed to control the fire.Officials said there were no casualties in the incident and flight operations were not interrupted.Local workers at the scene said the fire spread to the adjacent campus and nearby bushland areas.“Though we don’t know how this happened, we have been worried for a long time and we called everyone… We don’t know how far the fire has spread. The fire brigade has also arrived and everyone is working hard to put out the fire,” a worker told ANI.
