Anthony, then 17, was asked to leave a school tent where he did not belong, and an argument ensued in which Anthony stabbed the student. Anthony’s GiveSendGo remains active after a 12-member jury found him guilty sparking backlash online. There are also claims that Anthony’s parents – Kara Hayes and Andrew Anthony – used GiveSendGo funds buy a house.

While these claims were proven to be untrue, Anthony’s family did use funds from the fundraiser for more than just his legal defense. This is where they spend their money.

How Karmelo Anthony’s family uses GiveSendGo funds

In the now-suspended GiveSendGo, Anthony’s family detailed from the beginning that the money was not just for legal fees.

The fund is called the Help Camelot Official Fund. It noted that the fund is intended to address “urgent and necessary means that arise as a result of this situation.” That included “safe relocation due to escalating threats to the safety and well-being of Anthony’s family, as well as basic living expenses, transportation, counseling and other safety measures,” according to the now-defunct fundraiser.

Therefore, the suggestion that they purchased a new home is not true. However, the family likely used funds to relocate, as the house they lived in reportedly had Anthony’s relatives as tenants.
