What are vegetation fires?

one vegetation fire It refers to the uncontrolled burning of vegetation in natural areas such as forests, grasslands or shrublands. These are usually ignited by lightning or human activity.

According to the World Meteorological Organization, “Vegetation fires release large amounts of particulate matter (PM) and toxic gases, including carbon monoxidenitrogen oxides and non-methane organic compounds into the atmosphere. Research shows that smoke particles from vegetation fires are associated with respiratory and cardiovascular effects, and that exposure to fire emissions poses the highest risk to vulnerable groups (i.e. people with respiratory or cardiovascular disease, infants and the elderly). “
