Srinagar: An eight-year-old girl was mauled to death by a dog in Sopore, the second such death in the district in less than a year.Aiman ​​Adnan Sheikh died within minutes of being attacked on Friday in an apple orchard near his home in Seloo village of Sopore, 55 kilometers north of Srinagar, doctors said. “The child was alone approximately 200 feet from her home when she was attacked by the dog,” a police officer said.According to the neighborhood medical officer Dr Zulfikar, the child suffered serious injuries. “She was bitten on her face, neck, chest, abdomen and both thighs, including a deep gash on her neck. It was a painful sight for us,” Zulfikar said.Witness Suhail Mushtaq Naikoo said the attack had left the community “shocked”. Some residents claimed that dogs were being transferred from Sopore town to nearby villages, exacerbating the situation.Sopore MLA Irshad Ahmad Kar of the ruling National Conference (NC) recalled that a man died after being attacked by a dog in the area last year, leaving behind his wife and three young daughters. “Deaths caused by dog ​​attacks should be appropriately compensated and municipalities held accountable,” Carr said.
