Jimmy Kimmel won’t be fired over Melania’s ‘widow’ comments, ABC makes final decision

jimmy kimmel Even if President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania call for his firing, he will likely escape any major calls from ABC. It was revealed that the network had received a call just days after the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. The TV host was criticized for his controversial “widow-to-be” joke about Melania Trump just before the president and several Cabinet officials were evacuated from the Washington Hilton hotel in response to the shooting.

Jimmy Kimmel responds to Melania and Donald Trump criticism

During Monday night’s monologue, Kimmel reacted to the fire alarm. “You know how sometimes you wake up in the morning and the first lady makes a statement calling for you to be fired? We’ve all been there, right?” he said.

The 58-year-old explained that his joke was part of a monologue he gave on a mock WHCD, adding that it was a “light bake”.

“It wasn’t until this morning that I had another Twitter vomit storm and a call from our First Lady to fire me. Apparently it was a joke about their age difference and the look of joy we see on her face every time they’re together. It was a very light-hearted joke about the fact that he’s almost 80 and she’s younger than me. It’s not a call for assassination by any definition. They know that. I’ve been very outspoken over the years, especially against gun violence,” he noted.

“But I know the first lady went through a very stressful experience over the weekend, and probably every weekend in that house. And, I agree that we should reject hateful and violent speech. I do, and I think a good place to turn that around is to have a conversation with your husband about it. Donald Trump can say whatever he wants, and so can you and I. Because under the First Amendment, as Americans, we have the right to free speech.”

Will ABC fire Jimmy Kimmel?

A report from PageSix said ABC has finally made a decision. The network “has no plans to suspend, fire him or cancel the show,” according to the publication. It’s back to the normal recording state. They are moving on.

Trump’s own ‘death’ joke

During an April 28 monologue, Kimmel mocked Trump and played a clip of the president welcoming King Charles. The 79-year-old said his parents have been married for 63 years and told Melania he would not live longer than that.

“Honey, this is a record we can’t top,” Trump said.

Kimmel pointed out this “hypocrisy.” “Wait a minute. Is he just joking about his death?” he asked. “He should be fired for this! Only Donald Trump would ask me to be fired for making a joke about his old age, and then, one day later, go out and make a joke about his own!”

Meanwhile, Trump lashed out at the late-night host of “Truth Social.” “Wow, Jimmy Kimmel is not funny at all, and his poor TV ratings prove that the statements he makes on his show are truly shocking,” Trump wrote. “I understand that so many people are outraged by Kimmel’s vile calls for violence and typically don’t respond to anything he says, but this is something that goes way beyond the pale. Jimmy Kimmel should be fired immediately from Disney and ABC,” he wrote.
