A manhunt is underway for an asylum-seeking migrant who allegedly beat and suffocated New York mother Jamey Carney at her home in Ireland. The police launched a search for “important suspects”.

Ahmad Alsaqer, 28, was reportedly in Türkiye when police launched the manhunt. According to the Irish Independent, Carney’s 13-year-old daughter found her mother dead in bed at their Killarney home at around 1pm on Tuesday, July 7.

Al-Saqr applied for asylum upon arrival Ireland 2024 from the Middle East, according to the New York Post. Hours before he allegedly murdered his partner Carney, 43, he boarded a bus to the Irish capital’s airport at around 3am.

Carney was pronounced dead at his home. Gardai have issued an alert asking the public for information about a suspect seen in the area between 11pm and 5am on Monday 6 July.

Police believe Alsaqer will attempt to return to Jordan through the Middle East, Extra.ie reported. He reportedly has contacts in Türkiye, Syria and Jordan, and is fluent in Arabic, French and English.

Artsak is described by police as a person of interest in Carney’s murder and is believed to be one of the last people to see Carney. He spent Sunday and Monday with her.

Carney was found hiding under a duvet with multiple serious head injuries. She died of asphyxiation, the New York Post reported. Neighbors reported hearing an argument coming from inside the rental home, officials said.

Artsak was seeking asylum in Ireland and authorities had returned his passport to Carney before he was murdered. That was the travel document he used to escape turkey.

Carney and Al-Saqr have been dating for the past few months after meeting at a local anti-Israel protest. Carney shared a photo of the two on social media. Artsak often commented on Carney’s posts, writing loving messages such as “I love you so much” and “My beautiful family.”

According to the Irish Times, Carney is from Westchester County, New York, but has lived in Killarney for several years. She moved to Killarney about five years ago and lived with her daughter, Irish broadcaster RTÉ reported.
