A McDonald’s manager in Yuba City, californiaHe was taken to intensive care with severe burns after he was attacked by a colleague who allegedly poured scalding hot oil on him after get off work. A GoFundMe has been launched to help suffering 20-year-old Jacob Smith severe burns to his face, neck, hands and shoulders. He is receiving specialized treatment at the University of California, Davis Medical Center, the New York Post reported.

The incident occurred on May 30 when Smith’s co-worker, 23-year-old Jalani Bluett, attacked him, police said. Following the incident, Brutt was reported missing. Authorities later found him and took him away detainedCBS News reports.

Smith’s mother, Amber Smith, said her son was engaged and working hard to make a life for himself, GoFundMe reported.

“My son has an amazing spirit and he’s stayed positive through it all and tried to make us feel better,” Amber said. “This happened so serendipitously, he’s a really good kid, and it’s not just because he’s my son, he’s just a really good kid and has a positive spirit.”

Smith will undergo additional surgeries, including skin grafts.

Bruter has been booked into the Sutter County Jail and faces a battery charge causing serious bodily injury.

“On May 30th, my son Jacob was on duty at McDonald’s, where he has been a loyal and dedicated employee for many years. What was a normal day at work turned into a nightmare when a co-worker threw hot oil on him,” Amber wrote on the page.

“Jacob suffered severe second-degree burns to his face, arms and back. He was rushed to hospital for treatment, where doctors will help him recover. He now faces a long and painful recovery, including ongoing medical care, therapy and time off from work,” she added.

Amber explained that the tragedy “caused a significant setback at a time when he should be looking forward to building his life and planning for his future.”

She explained that her son will be a working uncle during his recovery and therefore will struggle with the “financial burden of lost wages, daily living expenses, transportation and recovery-related expenses” that will only increase in the coming month.

“As his mother, my heart breaks when he looks at me and says ‘Why is he doing this to me?’ I want to help him not have to worry about day-to-day finances and making ends meet, but instead be able to focus on his recovery. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help relieve some of the financial stress and allow Jacob to focus on what’s most important right now: recovery,” Amber wrote, adding that funds raised will help pay for rent and housing, utilities and basic bills. Groceries and daily living expenses, transportation to medical appointments, lost income during recovery, and medical and recovery-related expenses.
