DownDetector, which provides real-time outage monitoring, said in an X post that “user reports indicate that Wordle has been experiencing issues since 12:40 AM ET.”

According to DesignTaxi, “Wordle reportedly stopped working for some players on April 9, 2026. According to a chart displayed on the outage tracking service drop detectorthe number of user reports first began to rise around 12:16 a.m. ET. “

Some users shared their experiences with X. “Okay @nytimes @NYTGames – what’s up with the 4/9 update? Never seen this happen before. I’ve been using #Wordle for 255 days straight and I don’t want it to break because of something like this. Yes I updated the app,” one user wrote.

What is wordle?

word is a daily word games Created by Brooklyn-based software engineer Josh Wardle. The game quickly became a favorite among word lovers. Every day thousands of players encounter fresh word puzzles that must be played using a series of clues in a process of elimination. The game is available as a daily puzzle since October 2021.

Wordle starts with a 5×6 grid of empty boxes in which a five-letter word must be guessed. The colors indicate how correct the player was – green for the correct letter in the correct position, yellow for the correct letter in the wrong position, and gray for letters not in the word.

The New York Times says, “Solvers don’t need a subscription to play Daily Wordle. However, the entire Wordle experience is only available to Game, All Access, and Home Delivery subscribers. We recommend creating a New York Times account or logging in with an existing New York Times account so you can play Wordle across devices or platforms while retaining your progress and statistics.”
