Savannah Guthrie has not appeared on NBC’s “Today” since her 84-year-old mother went missing on February 1. Nancy Guthrie. Multiple sources told Page Six that she is unlikely to return to the morning show in the near future.
“No way Savannah“She’ll be back,” an insider said. “I can’t imagine she’d want to come back.” While no firm decision has been made, the source stressed that Guthrie’s current focus is on her family rather than her professional responsibilities.
Another TV executive noted Savannah’s importance to the morning show, saying, “If you could pick one person on morning TV that the show doesn’t want to lose, it’s Savannah.”
Sources told Page Six that Guthrie, 54, has been a co-host of “Today” since July 2012 and is widely regarded as the “glue” of the anchor team.
Hoda Kotb returns temporarily
Former co-host Hoda Kotb, who left NBC in January 2025 after 26 years, returned temporarily to make up for Guthrie’s absence. Page Six reports that Kotb will appear again next week, but the network has no long-term plans and is monitoring the situation on a weekly basis.

An NBC spokesperson told Page Six, “The entire show and network are united in supporting our beloved colleagues and friends as we navigate this unimaginable time.”
Contract and future uncertain
Guthrie’s friends say she is visibly struggling The search for her mother continues. Despite public appeals from Guthrie and her siblings Anne and Karen, Nancy remains missing and no suspect has been found. “She seemed depressed. She wasn’t doing well,” a source told Page Six, adding that anyone who knew her was worried about her health.
According to reports, Guthrie has more than a year left on his $7 million per year contract and is about to renew.
Sources say the network gave her the space and support she needed to focus on her family. “Everyone at ‘Today’ is taking it day by day and certainly giving Savannah the grace, time and support she needs,” an NBC source said.
