McConnell claimed he “briefly lost consciousness” as a result of the fall, ending weeks of silence from his office on the cause of his hospitalization and absence from Capitol Hill. However, Beshear called for more transparency in the interview.

While Beshear insisted that McConnell is entitled to a “certain degree of privacy” about his health, he needs to be honest with voters. “When you’re in the hospital for a month and you miss all your voting, that’s your job, you owe your boss an explanation, just like everyone else who works in the hospital, an explanation of what happened and when you’re going to come back,” the governor said Thursday.
“When you take these jobs, when you represent the people of Kentucky, you give up some of that. That’s what this territory comes with,” he added.
Reports of Beshear’s remarks did not suggest McConnell had died. It simply noted that before the proof-of-life photo was released, the governor received a call saying he had died. However, the interview, reported by multiple publications, raised new concerns about McConnell’s health.
