Malewal has scored 783 runs in nine games at an average of 52, including two centuries and six fifties, and is the team’s third-highest scorer.He also showed his prowess in the shortest format. In the Vidarbha T20 League, he became the second-highest run-scorer, amassing 318 runs at an average of 79.5 and a strike rate of 161.42, which highlighted his transformational ability.Malewal’s debut comes at a crucial time for Mumbai Indians, who are struggling in IPL 2026 and are currently at the bottom of the table after losing four games in a row after their first win. With senior players under pressure, the team has turned to new talent in its quest to turn a profit.Facing confident Gujarat Titans Shubman GillMalewal, who elected to bowl first after winning the toss, now has an early opportunity to showcase his potential on one of the biggest stages in franchise cricket.
