Indo-Texan teen takes two grandmothers to prom, says choice to bring Ba and Ma was easy

Two grandmothers attended their first prom at a small private school in Addison, Texas, and high school senior Reeyan Mistry had no hesitation in deciding who to ask as his prom partner. These are his father and mother, two grandmothers from Africa and India. The two women, dressed in saris, posed for photos with Mistry as the school celebrated the decision to break with tradition, WFAA reported.Westwood School has just 17 seniors in this year’s graduating class – 12 girls and five boys. Wren said his decision was simple but emotional because he wanted to take away the two grandmothers who shaped his life.But Mistry’s mother remembered the promise Ryan made as a child. Ryan’s mother Trisha Mistry said that as a child, Ryan often told his grandmother that he would take them to dance parties.“They did hair, makeup, nails. I felt like I had two daughters,” Trisha told WFAA of the two grandmothers’ preparations for Reeyan’s big day.“He wasn’t just raised by me, he was raised by a village. I can’t look at them in those days, [his grandmas] There,” Theresa said.“I had a lot of fun hanging out with my grandma. It was my way of showing my appreciation for everything my grandma did for me,” Lane said.School principal Heather Lourcey liked Reeyan’s idea and said, “We could definitely use more Reeyan.”Reeyan’s parents, Jignesh ‘Jay’ Mistry and Trisha Mistry, also attended their son’s prom.
