Sukhwinder Sidhu, 31, an Indian-origin truck driver in Ontario, pleaded guilty before his trial over the August 2023 crash is scheduled to begin this month. olympic figure skater Alexandra Paul Sidhu’s speeding truck hit the back of several vehicles, including Paul’s car, causing Sidhu to die in the accident. It was a multi-vehicle pileup caused by Sidhu, who ignored a slowdown sign. Paul’s young son was taken to hospital with a broken leg and others involved in the crash also suffered life-changing injuries. Sidhu has been charged with dangerous driving causing death and bodily harm and his trial is due to begin on Tuesday. Sidhu pleaded guilty before trial and accepted responsibility for the accident.Investigators say Sidhu drove a transport truck at a construction site at nearly twice the 60 km/h speed limit before crashing into a row of six vehicles. Officials said Sidhu had been working for 26 hours and the truck was recorded traveling at nearly 108 km/h.

Alexandra Paul and her ice dancing partner and husband Mitch Islam represented Barrie and Canada in ice dancing at the 2014 Olympic Games in Russia. Paul was a figure skating star at Mariposa Skating School in Barrie. After retiring from skating, Paul became a practicing solicitor in Barrie, working for Barriston Solicitors. In 2024, Paul was posthumously inducted into the Barrie Sports Hall of Fame along with Islam.
