Tanidal has been viciously attacked for his comments on birthright citizenship.

represent Shri Thanidhar After he expressed interest in a Supreme Court hearing on birthright citizenship, he was viciously attacked and accused of being responsible for his first wife’s suicide. Tanidal said the hearing was deeply personal to him because he came to the United States as an immigrant. But he has come under attack over baseless accusations, with one social media user holding him responsible for his first wife’s suicide. “As an immigrant, today’s debate over birthright citizenship is deeply personal to me. The 14th Amendment is clear: U.S. citizenship is guaranteed to the children of immigrants. Despite President Trump’s wishes, he cannot rewrite the Constitution,” Sanidal wrote.Birthright citizenship states that anyone born in the United States is an American—regardless of the legal status of their parents. President Donald Trump wants to end it, and the Supreme Court has been hearing arguments about it. Shri Thanedar was not granted birthright citizenship because he was not born in the United States. He immigrated to the United States on a student visa, but when he expressed interest in Supreme Court debates, he came under intense attack. “You married a naturalized citizen to obtain a green card, then drove the woman to drink an entire bottle of antidepressants and end her own life. You then used your legal status to open a biolab in New Jersey where you tortured and killed innocent animals while defrauding investors,” one wrote. “You should be stripped of your citizenship, deported, and your entire lineage banned from setting foot in the United States,” the troll wrote.

Who was the first wife of Shri Thanedar?

Shri Thanedar’s first wife was Shamal Thanedar, a neurologist and father of two, who committed suicide in 1996 at the age of 37 due to an overdose of antidepressants. At the time, they were living in St. Louis. Their sons were 4 and 8 years old at the time. Shri Thanedar said his wife hid her battle with depression from him and her death left him traumatized. In 2024, Thanedar produced and starred in “Dear Pra”, a short film about Shamal’s suicide. Shamal is also an immigrant from India, and there is no evidence that she was a naturalized citizen when she married Thanidhar. Thanidar married Shamal in 1984 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1988. After Shamal’s death, Thanidhar married his current wife Shashi in 1999.
