Advait Deshmukh apologized to the victims during the sentencing.

An Indian-American doctor in Toledo, Ohio, has been sentenced to six months in prison after admitting that he secretly recorded women in a Toledo hospital employee restroom. Advait Deshmukh was sentenced in June after pleading guilty to one count of attempted tampering with evidence and seven counts of voyeurism.Judge Michael Goulding ordered Deshmukh to serve three years of probation, register as a sex offender for 15 years, attend Sexaholics Anonymous meetings and continue sex offender mental health treatment. The judge also told the court that Deshmuel told the court that he plans to move to a new county in Ohio — Franklin — but that he must continue to take steps there and register as a sex offender.

Deshmukh apologized to victims during sentencing

Deshmukh apologized to the victims before delivering the sentence. His lawyers asked the court to impose a suspended sentence instead of jail time, saying Deshmukh was undergoing treatment to better understand the behavior that led to the crime.Deshmukh’s crimes have six known victims. One of them spoke in court, describing the trauma the incident had left her. Lindsay, a Toledo hospital employee, told the judge she still checks bathrooms for hidden cameras and remains troubled by the uncertainty of where the images ended up. “Not knowing what these pictures did was enough to keep me up at night,” she said. “As we all know, no content is ever truly removed.“She said the violations continued as investigators, attorneys and others involved in the case viewed the images, and she didn’t even know how many others had seen them.

There was a mobile phone in the box found in the bathroom

The case began in June 2025, or at least came to light in June 2025. A hospital employee discovered a cellphone hidden in a box in a unisex restroom in Toledo Hospital’s Renaissance Building. When a witness tried to remove the device, Deshmukh grabbed it and claimed it belonged to him, prosecutors said.A joint investigation by ProMedica and Toledo police uncovered 82 cellphone images taken between February and May 2025. Investigators identified six victims, none of whom gave permission to record, but said there may be more.At the time of the crime, Deshmukh was a third-year resident at the University of Toledo, specializing in endourology and urologic oncology. The University of Toledo said he was placed on administrative leave after the device was discovered, and his residency appointment was not renewed following an internal investigation.
