Firstly, Abhishek Sharma is yet to open his account in the tournament, having failed in three consecutive matches. Looking at India’s batting so far, Amir suggested that teams like South Africa and West Indies can exploit the weaknesses of the Indian team. On ‘Haarna Mana Hai’, the host asked Aamir for his prediction for the Super 8 Group A semi-finals. Amir replied: “South Africa and the West Indies.” Amir shook his head firmly when the host said he didn’t think India would reach the semi-finals. “If you watch their games, you will see that the batting average has collapsed in all games except Pakistan’s. The pressure will be on in the Super Eights. The way South Africa and West Indies are playing, they can beat any team,” he said while explaining why he doesn’t see India making it to the semi-finals. India will begin their Super 8 campaign against South Africa in Ahmedabad on Sunday, February 22. The team will then travel to Chennai to face Sikandar Raza’s Zimbabwe on Thursday, February 26. Their last Super 8 match will be against West Indies on March 1 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Meanwhile, Group B’s Pakistan, New Zealand, England and Sri Lanka will compete for two semi-final spots. Amir predicted that Pakistan and New Zealand would qualify from the group. The Super 8 leg will begin on Saturday, February 21 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo with Pakistan taking on New Zealand.
