Rajnath Singh India has maintained a balanced approach to diplomacy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi while also leaving open the possibility of India playing a greater role in resolving global conflicts, including crises in West Asia, Berlin said on Wednesday.
Paying tribute to the victims on the first anniversary of the Pahalgam attack at an Indian community event at the Indian Embassy in the German capital, Rajnath also issued a sharp rebuke against Pakistan, saying: “(Our) neighbors are more or less good; there is just one problem, you all know it. But if any neighbor now tries to cause trouble, then dot dot dot.”
Rajnath also held bilateral talks with Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius to further promote strategic defense partnerships with European countries. The two sides discussed a range of bilateral security and defense issues, including priority areas for joint development and co-production of defense equipment, particularly in niche technology areas.
Addressing the Indian community, Singh highlighted India’s efforts to resolve the conflict. “India has tried… but everything has its time. Tomorrow, India may play a role in it and succeed. We cannot rule out the possibility. The Prime Minister has called on all parties to end the war.”
He further noted that Modi has personally engaged with leaders of countries involved in major conflicts to encourage dialogue and peaceful resolution. “When he (Prime Minister Modi) met Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Zelensky, he discussed this issue. Even when he met Trump, he discussed this issue and said a solution should be found.”
He also cited India’s diplomatic efforts, which resulted in the passage of several Indian ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
When Singh met with Pistorius, they signed and exchanged a defense industry cooperation roadmap and a United Nations peacekeeping training cooperation implementation arrangement. Rajnath said India is looking forward to the participation of the German Air Force in the next Ex-TARANG SHAKTI event, which will be held in India in September-October.
