“I was just talking to the president,” golf icon Tiger Woods was told to a deputy shortly after he crashed his SUV last week, according to newly released body camera footage of his arrest on drunk driving charges.The video, taken after the March 27 Jupiter Island crash, did not confirm who Woods was referring to. However, there was speculation that the remarks were related to Donald Trump, who later expressed concern, describing Woods as a “very close friend” and a “terrific person” who was dealing with “some difficulties.”Authorities said Woods admitted he was distracted while driving, the Associated Press reported. “I was looking down at my phone and all of a sudden — boom,” he told an officer, describing how his speeding SUV hit a truck and rolled over. No injuries were reported.Video shows Woods appearing disoriented during questioning – burping, yawning and dozing off in the patrol car. When informed of his arrest, Woods asked in shock, “Am I under arrest?” The deputy responded, “Yes, sir.”Deputy Tatiana Levenar, who conducted the sobriety tests, concluded, “I do believe your normal abilities were impaired… You were arrested for driving under the influence.” A search of Woods’ pockets revealed two pills, which he identified as Norco, a prescription painkiller containing hydrocodone.Woods insists he did not drink. “I’m not drunk. I’m taking prescription medication,” he later told police, admitting he had taken “some” medication earlier in the day. Although he refused to take a urine test, a breathalyzer test showed he had not consumed alcohol — which now constitutes a misdemeanor under Florida law.The 50-year-old, who has pleaded not guilty, cited a long history of injuries during roadside tests, including multiple back and leg surgeries that affected his balance.Woods, widely regarded as one of golf’s greatest figures, has battled persistent injuries in recent years and has not played in a tournament since the 2024 British Open. Following the incident, he announced that he would retire indefinitely to focus on his health.
