Sri Lanka were forced to change their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana was ruled out due to injury. Pacer Dilshan Madushanka has been officially identified as his replacement.Patialana suffered a muscle strain during Sri Lanka’s Group B match against the Australian national cricket team at Palleke on Monday, a match the hosts won by eight wickets. The setback occurred early in his career and cut short his time in the game.
Confirming the change, “the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Technical Committee has approved Dilshan Madushanka as the replacement for Matheesha Pathirana in the Sri Lanka squad,” the ICC said in a release.The right-arm fast bowler bowled just three balls against Australia before discomfort forced him to stop. He had previously featured in Sri Lanka’s matches against Ireland and Oman but failed to complete the match.The injury is also a concern for his Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders. The three-time champion invested INR 180 million in Patirana. and Mustafizur Rahman Released Harshit Rana faces uncertainty over IPL 2026, with the latest setback adding to concerns over their bowling pace.The incident occurred when he passed the ball to Australia captain Mitchell Marsh and immediately clutched his left leg in obvious pain. Although early comments suggested it was a hamstring issue, it was later confirmed to be a muscle strain. The team doctor rushed out, but Patilana had to be assisted off the field, with Dasan Shanaka completing the remaining passes.
