Hindu Americans condemn US comedian for wearing Indian clothes to deliver ‘anti-Hindu’ speech in Texas: ‘Circus of hate’

Indian-American advocacy group Hindu America Foundation (HAF) has criticized a public rally in Texas after an American comedian mocked Hindu beliefs, saying the event turned into a “circus of hate” and allowed for non-stop anti-Hindu rhetoric. The incident occurred during a meeting of the Plano City Council after American YouTuber and comedian Alex Stein delivered a sarcastic speech that many in the Indian-American community found offensive and disrespectful. Stein appeared wearing Indian-style attire, including a yellow kurta and a red tilak on her forehead, and repeatedly mocked Hindu traditions. In his comments, he mocked the Hindus’ respect and sanctity of cows and said in a sarcastic tone that “the cow is the divine mother… her urine, gomutra, is the purest medicine… her excrement, gobar, is sacred gold”.As the speech continued, some members of the Indian-American community in attendance walked out in protest. Video of the event went viral on social media with the caption: “Young Indian boy pleads with Plano mayor to help stop attack by Muslim Brotherhood and its HOA association.”In response to the video, the American Hindu Foundation posted on X that the conference had become an arena for hatred against Indian Americans. The foundation said Stein continued to “mock and taunt Hindus” despite city rules allowing microphones to be turned off for inflammatory or disruptive speech.HAF’s post added: “We demand that cities abide by their own rules and not allow public forums to turn into circuses of hate and targeting of any community.”In addition, anti-immigration, anti-Hindi and anti-India rhetoric are increasing on online and offline platforms in the United States, with some “MAGA” conservatives even targeting Indian-American leaders such as FBI Director Kash Patel, Second Lady Usha Vance, former Governor’s Party leader Vivek Ramaswamy, and even Congressmen Thanidhar and Lo Khanna. The xenophobic trend stems in part from white nationalists who claim that the United States belongs only to Americans and that any other nationality, race or religion is considered alien. This agenda was further pursued when Vice President Vance stated in a speech that America is a Christian nation and will always remain a Christian nation.
