Guwahati, May 10 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party leader Himanta Biswa Sarma met Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Lok Bhavan in Guwahati on Sunday demanding the formation of a new government. New Delhi: Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya has been officially appointed as the Chief Minister of Assam under Article 164(1) of the Constitution, paving the way for the formation of the next Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in the state.According to an official notification issued by the Assam Parliamentary Affairs Department, Sarma will be sworn in as the Chief Minister on Tuesday, May 12, at 11.40 am at the Veterinary College at Kanapala, Guwahati.“In exercise of the powers vested in him under Article 164(1) of the Constitution of India, the Governor of Assam is pleased to appoint Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma as the Chief Minister of Assam,” the notification said.The order was issued from Dispur on May 10 and signed by Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota.The oath-taking ceremony is expected to formally mark the beginning of the new government in the northeastern state, following the electoral success of the BJP-led alliance.Earlier in the day, Sarma claimed to form the next government after meeting with the governor.The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs subsequently circulated a formal notification confirming his appointment.Sarma, one of the BJP’s most prominent leaders in the northeast, will continue as chief minister after leading the state.
