‘He should resign first’: Mamata targets PM Modi over voter list controversy in Bengal polls

New Delhi: Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee Friday launched scathing attack on PM Narendra Modiclaiming that if the electoral roll contained the name of an infiltrator, he should first resign.Addressing a rally in Dakshindinajpur, she said: “If there are names of infiltrators in the voters’ list, Modi won with their votes earlier too, so he should resign first.”She questioned the allegations regarding the electoral roll and asked why the same electoral roll used in the 2024 general election was now being questioned ahead of the parliamentary vote.The chief minister also spoke about the recent incident in Malda district where judicial officials were detained for several hours. She blamed the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the Indian Secular Front (ISF) for the incident, while accusing the Congress and the BJP of incitement.Giving details, Banerjee said the main accused in the case has been arrested.“BJP borrowed him (the accused) from AIMIM and brought him here,” she claimed while addressing a rally in Harirampur.She further added: “The ISF is with them; the Congress and the BJP are also providing the agitation.”Banerjee said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested the main accused and advocate Mofakkarul Islam from Bagdogra Airport while he was trying to escape.“It was they who planned the violence in Malda Mosabali,” she said.Banerjee also expressed concerns over the conduct of the elections, claiming officials were being transferred to facilitate entry of outsiders into the state.She further claimed there were irregularities involving security forces.“The funds were brought in through Central Reserve Police Force vehicles. I have records of these activities and will expose them in due course,” she claimed.this Trinamool Congress The Sheikh also targeted Home Minister Amit Shah, who has announced plans to stay in West Bengal during the elections.Banerjee claimed that his presence would not bring electoral benefits to the BJP. She said Shah’s extended stay in the state during the polls would instead lead to a reduction in the party’s vote share.
