In Hardahar, Kalyan Chakraborti of the BJP won with 97,752 votes, defeating Devadeep Purohit of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) who polled 73,266 votes by a margin of 24,486 votes.Hardahar is a parliamentary seat (109th position) in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. It is part of the Dum Dum Lok Sabha constituency and covers Hadaha city and nearby urban areas, This predominantly urban constituency (89% urban) has about 240,672 voters and 241 polling stations, with Scheduled Castes accounting for 14.93% of the population and Scheduled Tribes 1.7% of the population. Voter turnout in 2021 was 78.76%. In the 2021 main elections (before the November by-elections), TMC’s Kajal Sinha won with 89,807 votes (49%), defeating BJP’s Shilbhadra Dutta (61,667 votes, 34%) with 28,140 votes. TMC has controlled the city seat since 2011. However, Sinha passed away due to COVID-19 in April 2021. The TMC then won the seat again in a by-election and Sovandeb Chattopadhyay became the MLA.
