Guwahati High Court asks Himanta to reply to hate speech PIL within 4 weeks

Himanta Biswa Sarma The response to the PIL sought action within four weeks against the CM for allegedly making hate speeches against the minority community in the state.“A responding affidavit has been filed on behalf of the state government and it should be filed by the next date,” the HC said, posting the case on May 28.

A bench of Chief Justice Ashutosh Kumar and Justice Arun Dev Choudhury decided to club them after hearing three PILs filed by the Assam Committee of the Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Hirendranath Gohain and two others.Abhishek Manu Singhvi, senior lawyer of CPM’s Assam unit, said Sarma made the controversial remarks even after the apex committee formally issued notice to him on the issue on February 26.
