When conservative news host and Fox News correspondent Laura Ingraham interviewed Republican Rep. Chip Roy about new legislative proposals opposing the H-1B visa program, Ingraham told Roy that members of Congress on both sides of the aisle are “responsible” for abusing the visa program because many big donors keep wages at minimum levels and insist they can’t find any Americans to do the jobs at that wage level.“Why would an American kid go into engineering if he thought they (companies) were going to bring in some people from India or Pakistan or China and replace them in a few years? Why?” Laura asked Roy.“My son is a rising junior and my daughter is a rising sophomore. We’re looking at college and trying to figure out what we’re going to do. Three-quarters of American STEM students can’t find a job after college. That’s reality when what corporate America has been doing for years is importing cheap labor because it looks good in a Wall Street Journal editorial or a Chamber of Commerce talking point,” Chip Roy said, adding that Republicans do the same. Roy then accused Democrats of still pushing immigration, leading to a series of scams.Chip Roy’s legislation for the H-1B visa program proposes ending the lottery system, which switched from a random lottery to a salary-based lottery for the first time this year. Roy wants to end the lottery system and replace it with merit-based selection.
