Google co-founder Sergey Brin turned his $450 million superyacht into a floating headquarters with an entire deck dedicated to work

For many of the world’s richest people, superyachts are the ultimate escape from work, offering privacy, luxury and the chance to disconnect from the outside world. Co-founder of Google Sergey Brin, however, seems to be taking a very different approach. His 466-foot (142.1-meter) superyacht Dragonfly reportedly includes a dedicated deck for business, allowing him to continue working while sailing the world’s oceans. Built by renowned German shipyard Lürssen and due for delivery in 2024, the vessel blends luxury with functionality and reflects Brin’s reputation as a hands-on entrepreneur who is returning to Google’s artificial intelligence efforts after the generative AI boom. The Dragonfly is more than just a luxury resort, it’s actually become a floating headquarters.

A superyacht designed around work, not leisure

Dragonfly is one of the largest private yachts built by German shipbuilder Lürssen. The 466-foot (142.1-meter) project, due for delivery in 2024, is one of the company’s largest projects. The yacht was designed by renowned naval architect Germán Frers, with Italian design studio Nauta Design creating its indoor and outdoor social spaces.Unlike most luxury yachts, where entire decks are reserved for cabins, spas or entertainment venues, Dragonfly reportedly dedicates a large portion of the ship to productivity. Lürssen confirmed that the yacht includes a dedicated business deck with private offices, gym, games room and concealed helicopter hangar, making it one of the most unusual workspaces built at sea.

Why Dragonfly’s business platform stands out

Dedicated offices are a signature feature of Dragonfly. Although Lürssen has not revealed its exact dimensions, the workspace is believed to occupy a large portion of the business deck. Industry observers estimate that the office and its surrounding facilities represent a significant commitment to creating a functional workplace and not just another luxury lounge.A concealed helicopter hangar further supports this concept. It is built within the yacht’s superstructure, allowing passengers to arrive or depart quickly without having to rely on ports or supply ships. While the detailed interior layout has not yet been revealed, the combination of private offices and aviation facilities reflects a design focused on making it easier for the owners to manage their global business interests.

Hybrid engineering under luxury

Dragonfly is powered by Lürssen’s advanced diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system. The unit combines a diesel engine, a controllable pitch propeller, a power take-off/power take-off (PTI/PTO) unit and an electric azimuth pod drive to increase efficiency and operational flexibility during long-distance voyages.Hybrid propulsion also reduces mechanical noise and vibration when operating in electric mode, creating a quieter onboard environment. Although Lürssen doesn’t specifically describe it as an office function, such engineering could provide a more comfortable environment for meetings, video calls and concentrated work at sea.

Sergey Brin returns to Google AI race

Brin stepped down from day-to-day management of Alphabet in 2019, but his involvement has increased dramatically amid the rapid rise of generative artificial intelligence. Reports show that he worked closely with Google’s engineering team, contributed to artificial intelligence development, and helped accelerate the company’s Gemini model. His work ethic came under scrutiny in 2025, with an internal memo first reported by The New York Times describing a 60-hour week as the “sweet spot for productivity.” Brin also encouraged employees working on Google’s artificial intelligence projects to spend every workday in the office, arguing that the race for general artificial intelligence requires extraordinary commitment.

A billionaire who never seems to turn off his phone

The dragonfly seems to reflect Brin’s personal work philosophy. Rather than separating business and leisure, yachts integrate the two into one environment. Dedicated offices, commercial facilities and advanced engineering design demonstrate that productivity remains a core consideration throughout the design.Today, Brin remains one of the richest people in the world, with Forbes estimating his fortune at around $266 billion, although that number changes with market movements. For those responsible for overseeing investments, AI initiatives, and philanthropic projects, a traditional office may not always be sufficient. Dragonfly shows how modern technology and luxury can merge to create a workplace that can travel anywhere in the world.

More than just a luxury yacht

The Dragonfly is not just another billionaire superyacht with lavish amenities. Its defining feature is that it reimagines what the workplace can look like. By integrating an entire business deck into one of the world’s largest private yachts, the vessel reflects the ever-changing lifestyle of technology entrepreneurs, whose work rarely stops, no matter where they are. While most people think of the high seas as an isolated place, Brin’s floating headquarters shows that for some of Silicon Valley’s biggest innovators, inspiration and business continue long after they leave the shores.
