He is a respected intellectual and thinker. With his profound thoughts and insights, he has enriched the proceedings of the House over the past few years. I am delighted that the honorable President has nominated him to the Rajya Sabha.”Nitish Kumar was sworn in as chief minister of Bihar for a record tenth term after the ruling NDA’s landslide victory in the state assembly elections in November last year. Apart from a brief eight-day stint in March 2000, he has held the post since November 2005, despite frequent changes in political alliances. The only interruption occurred between May 2014 and February 2015, when he stepped down and then JD(U) member Jitan Kumar Manjhi took over.His entry into the Union House paved the way for the ally Bharatiya Janata Party to appoint its first chief minister in Bihar. In the assembly polls, the BJP emerged as the largest party in the state, followed by the JD(U).
