Sub-Saharan Africa remains the epicenter of global terrorism, accounting for more than half of terrorism deaths in the region, although deaths have declined in countries such as Burkina Faso.The situation in India has improved, with attacks falling sharply, although it remains one of the worst-affected countries. At the same time, there has been an increase in isolated, politically motivated attacks in Western countries.The report warned that worsening geopolitical tensions, including conflicts in South Asia, instability in the Sahel and new threats from groups such as the Islamic State, could reverse recent gains and make the decline likely to be short-lived.
