Did Rama Duwaji use the N-word? New York first lady’s old post sparks backlash

Rama Duwaji, wife of New York City mayor Zoran MamdaniShe is facing backlash after old social media posts related to her resurfaced online. Some of the posts were allegedly published several years ago on platforms such as Tumblr and X. The posts have gone viral on social media in recent days, drawing attention to their content and “racist” language. An old post by Duwaji used racial slurs, including the N-word, in a message from 2013.However, the same New York Post report also stated that the authenticity of the account and posts had not been independently verified.Other posts purportedly related to Duaji expressed controversial views on race, politics and international issues. These included posts supporting the Palestinian cause and criticizing U.S. foreign policy. The resurfaced posts are said to date back to when Duvaji was in his late teens or early 20s. The account this content appears on is no longer active. The controversy comes just months after Duvaj became New York City’s first lady after her husband was elected mayor in 2025. She is an artist and illustrator and does not hold any official position in city government.Mayor Mamdani previously responded to criticism of his wife’s social media activity, saying she was a private person and held no official role in his administration. The issue sparked a backlash online, with critics questioning the content of the post and supporters urging caution and noting that some claims were based on unsubstantiated material on the internet. This is not the first time Duvaji’s past online activities have come under scrutiny. Earlier, her likes on social media posts related to the October 7, 2023 Hamas attack had sparked controversy.
