Amit Shah addresses a public meeting in Kaarikal, Puducherry

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah Congress leader V Narayanasamy on Saturday accused Congress president V Narayanasamy of turning Puducherry into an “ATM for the Gandhi family” during his tenure as chief minister of the union territory. The senior BJP leader also alleged that the Narayanasamy government was “selling” PG seats and diploma seats, including those for reserved category candidates, to “rich people”.Narayanasamy served as chief minister from June 2016 to February 2021.“The Narayanasamy government turned Puducherry into a cash machine for the Gandhi family. For money, they publicly auctioned PG and diploma seats and even sold SC and ST reserved seats to the rich.” The traffic mafia can harass the public with impunity,” Shah said at a public meeting in Karaikal, Puducherry. The former BJP president added that the Congress leader’s tenure as chief minister was filled with “corruption and chaos” and that the BJP – part of the current government led by the all-India Congress party – has been working to eradicate this.He further asserted that the saffron party is now focused on transforming Puducherry into a developed union territory in the next five years.“For five years, the Congress government has created an environment of corruption and chaos here. In five years, we have eliminated corruption and transformed chaos into order and now it is time to transform Puducherry into a developed Puducherry in the next five years. Earlier, decisions about Puducherry were taken by the Gandhi family of Delhi; now decisions about Puducherry are taken by Puducherry itself,” Shah told the rally. He noted that the BJP-All India Congress alliance secured 44 per cent votes in the 2021 Puducherry Assembly elections, thus setting a 60 per cent target for the upcoming polls expected to be held in April.“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to making India prosperous and secure. The people of Puducherry have expressed their trust in the National Democratic Alliance, the BJP, our leader Rangaswamy and Prime Minister Modi. In the 2021 Assembly elections, the people of Puducherry gave us 44 per cent votes. This time, the alliance of the BJP, AINRC and AIADMK aims to get 60 per cent votes,” he added.(With ANI input)
