Florida man arrested for 1993 execution-style murders of husband and wife, HSI NYPD investigates
More than 30 years after a couple were shot to death in their Bronx apartment in front of their three-year-old child, U.S. authorities have arrested a Florida man accused of carrying out the slayings during a planned drug robbery.William Antonio Solis, 62, was arrested last month by the New York Police Department in Tampa, Florida.Federal prosecutors charged Solis with participating in the execution-style murders of Luis Guerrero and his wife, Danis Sime, on June 21, 1993.Solis and two alleged accomplices were planning a robbery at a Bronx apartment when they targeted Guerrero, who authorities said was a drug supplier. Guerrero was taken into custody and the drugs were stolen. His wife was then allegedly lured into the apartment and tied there.Solis then shot both victims in the head while their three-year-old child was present.“The defendant in this case allegedly executed two New Yorkers in cold blood in front of their three-year-old child more than 30 years ago,” said NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.HSI New York Acting Special Agent in Charge Michael Alfonso said Solis spent years “hiding in plain sight away from New York.”“As alleged, William Solis hid in plain sight for decades more than a thousand miles from where he brutally murdered a Guerrero man in front of his young children,” Alfonso said.Solis, who lives in Tampa, is charged with voluntary manslaughter while participating in a drug conspiracy. If convicted, the charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum penalty of life imprisonment or the death penalty.
