Multiple suspicious fires occurred in some areas san diego Sunday morning. Authorities monitor worsening wildfire conditions and deteriorating air quality in Southern California. Officials said fires were reported near Sharp Memorial Hospital and on several nearby roads, while strong winds and dry conditions continued to increase fire danger across the region.
Six suspicious fires under investigation
According to the San Diego Police Department, officers first received emergency calls about several different fires near Health Center Boulevard and Linda Vista Road around 4:05 a.m. local time. Investigators later confirmed that at least six fires were being inspected, including two on Linda Vista Road, three along Health Center Drive, one near Meadowlark Avenue and Birmingham Way.

Incidents include burning trash at a bus stop, burning oil on concrete surfaces and a brush fire near Frost Street.
Officials said security personnel extinguished some of the flames before firefighters arrived on scene. Authorities believe the fires are related because of their close proximity and what investigators describe as “suspicious nature.”
Man detained after witness report
Police initially found no suspects near the fire. However, police later received a tip from a driver who allegedly witnessed a man wearing dark clothing set fire to a tree before heading south on Health Center Boulevard.
At around 5:12 a.m., police detained a man in connection with the incident. No injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing.
Southern California faces higher wildfire danger
Fire risk remains elevated across much of Southern California due to strong winds and low humidity, leading to suspicious fires. The National Weather Service extended its red flag warning through Sunday night for parts of the Antelope Valley and nearby foothill communities. Forecasters warn that strong west to northwest winds combined with dry conditions could quickly spread grass fires in vulnerable areas.

Two separate wildfires broke out in the Antelope Valley on Saturday afternoon, prompting evacuation warnings and shelter-in-place orders for some residents. Another wildfire, the Joplin Fire, was reported late Saturday night on federal lands managed by the U.S. Forest Service in Orange County.
The fire was first spotted around 11:25pm on Saturday, but officials have yet to release containment details or determine the cause.
San Diego air quality remains moderate
San Diego’s air quality index remained in the “moderate” category Sunday morning amid ongoing fire concerns.

Southern California Weather Outlook
Meteorologists say much of Southern California will experience mild temperatures on Sunday before warming arrives midweek.
Temperatures in Los Angeles and Orange counties are expected to reach around 71 degrees on Sunday, with temperatures rising into the upper 70s on Tuesday.
Temperatures in the Inland Empire and Valley areas could climb into the mid-to-upper 80s later this week as high pressure builds across the region.
Mountain communities could continue to experience wind gusts of up to 45 mph, while desert areas could see gusts approaching 50 mph, and temperatures in Palm Springs could approach 90 degrees.
Officials warned that high winds in high elevations and desert areas could continue to increase wildfire risks in the coming days.
