New Delhi: Brief SC on various situations Assam CM Naimanta Biswa SarmaOver alleged hate speech, including a recent controversial video featuring him, a group of citizens from Assam have urged the SC through a petition to implement its order, which directs that FIRs must be lodged in hate speech cases.Compiling his controversial remarks, the petitioner alleged that the chief minister had repeatedly talked about social and economic boycott of the Muslim community and called it derogatory terms like “miya” and “Bangladeshi” and sought the intervention of the apex council to stop him from targeting the Muslim community. The petitioners – former professor Hiren Gohain, former Assam Advocate General Harekrishna Deka, senior journalist Paresh Chandra Malakur and senior advocate Santanu Borthakur – approached the court through their advocate Yash S Vijay.
“The petitioner is forced to approach the Supreme Council to seek intervention to stop the ongoing hate speech against the minority community, and it is by openly inciting hate speech against the minority community in Assam and inciting common people to take action against the community that the CM has sullied his high constitutional office and violated his constitutional oath,” the plea said.
