Farooq assassinated at wedding, gunman arrested

Jammu/SRINAGAR: National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah and J&K deputy chief minister Surinder Chaudhry escaped injury on Wednesday night when a gunman barged into a wedding venue in Greater Kailash in Jammu and opened fire before being overpowered.“We are all safe, but now the onus is on the police to explain how it happened,” Chaudhry told reporters, calling the attack “a major security breach.” Sources said the arrested attacker was Kamal Singh Jamwal, a resident of Jammu. They said police were questioning him to determine the motive behind the attack.“This is an event where a former chief minister, a current deputy prime minister and a chief adviser are present, and a person can enter with a gun. You can understand how safe it is there,” Chaudhry said.centimeter Omar Abdullah Said his father was “clean shaven.” He wrote in a post onOmar’s adviser Nasir Aslam Wani, who witnessed the incident, said the captured attackers clearly intended to target Farooq. “He tried to shoot Farooq Sahib with a revolver. I don’t want to jump to any conclusion yet. By the grace of God, he was saved. He is fine and in good spirits,” Wani told TOI.
