A former Marine was forcibly removed from a Senate hearing and three police officers were injured as scuffles broke out at the U.S. Capitol as he protested the war with Iran.As protester Brian McInnis was dragged from the Senate floor, a loud “pop” was heard after Tim Sheehy, a former Navy SEAL and Republican member of the Armed Services Committee, joined others in ejecting him. Multiple videos show McGinnis standing up and starting yelling during a Senate military hearing before police immediately grabbed him and tried to remove him from the room. McGinnis protested U.S. military action in Iran, shouting: “The United States does not want its sons and daughters to fight for Israel!”Officers pulled McGinnis toward the exit, but McGinnis violently resisted and grabbed hold of the door in an attempt to pull him out. Montana Sen. Sheehy ran to help, pulling the protester’s arm away from the door while other protesters yelled that McInnis’ hand was stuck.
Did the protester have a broken arm?
Capitol Police said in a statement that McInnis was arrested and faces three counts of assaulting a police officer, three counts of resisting arrest and unlawful demonstration.“This afternoon, an unruly man began an unlawful protest at a hearing and violently resisted and resisted attempts by our officers to remove him from the room, putting everyone at risk,” Capitol Police said in a statement.Capitol Police said McInnis “resisted our officers by trapping his arm in the door and forced his way back into the hearing room,” adding that he was being treated for his injuries.
What did Tim Sheehy say?
Shea issued a statement on social media saying he was working to de-escalate the situation.“This gentleman came to the Capitol looking for confrontation, and he got it,” Shea said. “I hope he gets the help he needs without causing further violence.”A video posted to an X account named Brian McGinnis appeared to show the same man standing outside the Capitol ahead of Wednesday morning’s hearing. The account’s description calls him a “Green Party candidate for U.S. Senate.”He said in the video that he was “in Washington trying to speak out against the Senate” and asking them to take the country into war.“Anyone who feels let down and betrayed by our government, you are not alone,” he said in the video.
