According to Live Law, the Supreme Court issued a so-called “Special Order” asking the Calcutta High Court to designate serving and retired judicial officers of West Bengal as Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) to adjudicate claims and objections arising out of the Special Intensification Amendment (SIR) of the state’s electoral rolls. The court further said that these judicial officers will be assisted by micro observers and state government officials and directed the district collector and superintendent of police to provide logistical assistance and security to them.
