‘Eternal voice of civilization’: PM Modi pays tribute to Rabindranath Tagore in ‘pochishe boishakh’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday addressed Rabindranath Tagore The birth anniversary of the Nobel Prize winner is celebrated on the occasion of Pochishe Boishakh (the 25th day of the Bengali month of Boishakh).Prime Minister Modi Tagore is described as an eternal spokesman for the spirit of Indian civilization, whose ideas continue to inspire generations.During the annual Rabindra Jayanti celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the poet’s enduring contribution to literature, philosophy, education and culture.“Today, on the special day of Baishah-25, we pay our heartfelt tributes to Gurudev Tagore. Gurudev Tagore was an extraordinary literary figure, thinker and poet with extraordinary talent. He established himself as a unique philosopher, educationist, artist and eternal spokesperson of Indian civilization. Through his work he eloquently expressed humanity’s deepest emotions and our culture’s greatest ideals. PM Modi posted on X that he has enriched our society with fresh ideas, creativity and cultural confidence. West Bengal Chief Minister-designate Suvendu Adhikari also paid tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary, calling the Nobel laureate the “eternal star” of Bengali literature and culture.In a post on X, Adhikari said Tagore’s “immortal creations, humanitarian philosophy and patriotism” continue to guide generations.Pochishe Boishakh is held on the 25th of the Bengali month of Boishakh to commemorate Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary and remains one of the most important cultural festivals of West Bengal and the Bengali community across the world.The 25th of Boishakh in Bengal marks the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, who left a lasting mark on Bengali literature and culture as a poet, novelist, playwright, songwriter and philosopher. The day is widely celebrated across West Bengal to commemorate Tagore’s enduring legacy and impact on generations through cultural programmes, recitations and tributes.The Prime Minister’s tribute comes on a day of great political significance for the state, where the Bharatiya Janata Party is gearing up to form its first government in West Bengal after a decisive victory in the 2026 assembly elections. Senior leader Suvendu Adhikari of the Bharatiya Janata Party will be sworn in as chief minister on Saturday after the party won 207 seats, ending 15 years of rule in the state by the All-India Trinamool Congress party.Several senior leaders of the BJP, including Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda and Dharmendra Pradhan, as well as Himanta Biswa Sarma and Manik Saha, arrived in Kolkata ahead of the oath-taking ceremony.Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday announced Adhikari as the leader of the West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislative party and later met Governor RN Ravi to advocate for the formation of the government.
