‘Engine issue at 31,000 feet’: New Jersey-bound United Airlines flight makes emergency landing in Nevada
A New Jersey-bound United Airlines flight made an emergency landing in Nevada Thursday after reporting an engine issue. United Airlines flight 1403 departed Los Angeles before landing safely at Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport around 7 am after encountering a problem with one of the aircraft’s engines, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and United Airlines.The 176 passengers and seven crew members deplaned after the engine snafu and are awaiting another flight to their destination at Newark Liberty International Airport, an airline spokesperson told The New York Post.“United Flight 1403 LA to NY… engine failure at 31,000 feet! Emergency landing at Las Vegas Airport. Terrifying!” one user wrote on X, alongside a picture of a passenger window of the Boeing 757.Authorities have not confirmed what kind of engine issue forced the emergency landing.
United Airlines transcontinental flight makes emergency landing in London
The Newark incident comes close on the heels of a similar incident of the same airline but on a transcontinental flight earlier this week. A United Airlines flight heading to New Jersey from Rome had to make an emergency landing in London following mid-flight technical issues. Flight UA169 departed Venice Marco Polo Airport on Monday morning for Newark with 216 passengers. But after an hour, the plane approached Heathrow. It had to circle the London airport to get rid of excess fuel ahead of the unscheduled landing.The United Airlines flight eventually landed at Heathrow without issues about two and a half hours after departing Venice. The airline has not disclosed what mechanical issue affected the flight. It is also unclear when the passengers were rebooked onto another flight to continue their journey to Newark. “United flight 169 from Venice to Newark diverted to London Heathrow to address a mechanical issue. The aircraft landed safely, and we are working to rebook customers on the next available flight to EWR,” a spokesperson said.
