New Delhi: Days after a high-stakes election with record turnout, the Election Commission on Friday ordered re-polling at 15 polling stations at Magrahat Paschim and Diamond Harbor in South 24 Parganas, declaring the April 29 polls invalid. The polling body confirmed that the new poll will be held on May 2 from 7 am to 6 pm.The voter turnout in West Bengal was over 90% in both phases on April 23 and April 29.
However, violence disrupted the process and prevented it from being entirely smooth. The results will be announced on May 4, setting up a fierce battle for power in Kolkata between the ruling Trinamool Congress party and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
