Prosecutors focused their case on 82-year-old Carroll’s 2022 testimony, saying her lawsuit received no outside funding. In a 2022 video deposition, Carroll told then-Trump lawyer Alina Haba that no one else was paying her legal fees.

However, this proved to be inaccurate as it was later discovered that billionaire Reed Hoffman paid some of the legal fees and expenses. Carroll remains embroiled in numerous legal disputes with Trump. She won a multimillion-dollar award from the jury, which Trump is appealing. The president appeals a $5 million sexual abuse verdict to the Supreme Court. Carroll was awarded $83 million in the defamation case, which Trump also reportedly plans to appeal.

Carroll has also written for other notable publications such as Rolling Stone, Esquire, and Vanity Fair. Her accusations against Trump come from her 2019 book What Do We Need Men for? :A Moderate Proposal”.
In the case between Carroll and Trump, her attorneys told the judge they received funds from Huffman’s nonprofit. They clarified that Carroll had not met or had any conversations with anyone associated with the nonprofit. At the time, Haba told the court that Carroll’s team “conspired to hide the truth for almost six months.”
