According to MNPD spokesperson Kris Mumford, a group of approximately 10 to 15 teenagers gathered in the Union Terrace area and a fight broke out. Gunfire rang out in the middle quarrelhitting a 12-year-old child in the head.
Police identified the victim as Damarion Morehead. Police responded to reports of a shooting near Rep. John Lewis Way and Deaderick Street around 7:30 p.m. When officers arrived at Union Terrace, they found Morehead suffering from a severe gunshot wound to the head.
Mumford said Morehead was in “extremely critical” condition after the shooting and was being treated at Vanderbilt. He later died from his injuries.

So far, police have not announced any arrests. Mumford did say NOPD is interviewing two people involved in the incident, but they are not believed to be the shooters.
