‘Did you know he was alive?’: Republican Rep. Marlin Stutzman questions Mitch McConnell’s lengthy hospitalization

However, the senator is recovering and continues to work with staff while the Senate is on recess, according to McConnell’s office.

“Did you know he was still alive? I didn’t know.”
In the television interview, Stutzman said McConnell’s constituents deserved greater transparency about the senator’s condition.
“I haven’t heard from him, and I think that’s a question Republicans should be asking because he does represent Kentucky,” Stutzman said. “His constituents deserve answers for where he is right now.”
The Indiana Republican also backed a request from Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear for more information. Beshear recently sent a letter to McConnell’s office asking for clearer, updated information on the senator’s health.
“I think the governor of Kentucky has every right to ask in three weeks if no one has said anything,” Stutzman said.
He added that Republicans should hold members of their own party accountable. “As a Republican, I think we need to hold our own party accountable, so the fact that we’re not hearing anything real from Senator McConnell is very frustrating and concerning,” he said.
Stutzman further questioned whether McConnell was still alive.
“Did you know he was still alive? I didn’t know,” he said. “What I’ve heard and seen from some of my friends is that he’s obviously not doing well, but I don’t know if he’s still alive or if he’s passed away.”

How is Mitch McConnell’s health?
McConnell, the longest-serving U.S. senator in Kentucky’s history and former Senate Republican leader, was admitted to the hospital on June 14. His office has not disclosed the nature of his condition.
The lack of details has fueled speculation and prompted calls from Republicans and Democrats for more transparency.
In the absence of an official update, right-wing activist Laura Loomer also made unsubstantiated assertions about X, citing an unnamed source. In an
McConnell’s office, however, insists the senator is recovering.
“Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he has received as he continues to recover in the hospital. The senator’s condition continues to improve and he is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters during the Senate recess,” his office said Monday.
