The satirical outlet The Onion is one step closer to taking control of Infowars, the conspiracy theory platform founded by Alex Jones.

According to the New York Times, The Onion has signed a new licensing agreement with Gregory S. Milligan, the bankruptcy receiver who oversees Infowars. However, the deal is still subject to court approval and has not yet been finalized.

Onion CEO Ben Collins also announced the news, writing on Bluesky: “With the help of the Sandy Hook family, The Onion has reached a long-awaited agreement to acquire InfoWars.” Collins also said on Bluesky that Infowars’ new creative director will be comedian Tim Heidecker.
Collins added, “please wait for more information,” which appears to be coming.
Collins also shared a link to a statement purportedly issued by Bryce P. Tetraeder, the fake owner of Global Tetrahedron. “Today I can finally say the sweetest nine or ten words in the English language: The Global Tetrahedron has completed its plan to take control of InfoWars,” the statement read.
Early attempts blocked despite winning bid
The Onion made two attempts to acquire Infowars. Global Tetrahedron won a 2024 bankruptcy auction, acquired the business and vowed to make the site a parody of itself. However, a bankruptcy judge invalidated that outcome, saying he did not believe the company’s bid was worth more than the one proposed by Jones’ backers.
