Bezalel Eithan Raviv, CEO and founder of cryptocurrency recovery company Lionsgate Network, told Page Six that the person who wrote the alleged ransom note “demonstrated his Achilles’ heel to everyone who understands blockchain forensics.”

What went wrong? Cryptocurrency experts weigh in

According to TMZ, it received a ransom note last week that allegedly demanded $6 million in Bitcoin, as well as Bitcoin Wallet address. The outlet confirms that the wallet address is real.

Raviv said this was the worst mistake a kidnapper could make.

“Whenever a cybercriminal provides their wallet address, they essentially reveal their identity in a number of ways,” he said, adding that his company has successfully recovered funds by moving small amounts to cryptocurrency wallets to “see where the funds are flowing.”

Raviv said the problem lies in the ongoing misunderstanding surrounding cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. “In 2026, most people still don’t believe that cryptocurrencies can be traced,” he said.

Nancy Guthrie’s deadline to pay ransom ends

However, the deadline to pay the ransom ended on Monday, and it is unclear whether the Guthrie family has paid the ransom to the alleged kidnappers.

earlier, pima county Officials suspect Nancy may have been abducted from her residence in Tucson, Arizona, on January 31. When officers arrived at the location, they found what they described as “relevant evidence” and believed the home may be a crime scene.

Several media outlets have received purported ransom letters over the past week. At least one of these letters contains a financial request and a stated payment deadline. The initial deadline expired last Thursday, with a subsequent deadline scheduled for Monday.

Law enforcement officials have not confirmed the authenticity of the notes. However, they said they are thoroughly investigating all leads.
