Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta says ‘Sheesh Mahal’ is dark chapter of corruption

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday termed the name ‘Sheesh Mahal’ given by the BJP leader to her predecessor Arvind Kejriwal’s former residence as a “dark chapter of corruption” and claimed that the truth behind it can no longer be hidden.There was no immediate reaction from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to Gupta’s attack on Kejriwal.The BJP named the bungalow at No. 6 Flagstaff Road on Civil Lines, where Kejriwal served as Delhi chief minister from 2015 to 2024, as “Sheesh Mahal”, alleging corruption during its renovation and containing expensive interiors and household items.In a statement, Gupta said an investigation into the matter was already underway and a detailed inquiry would be ensured through Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).“Every rupee of public funds will be held accountable. Strict action will be taken against those found responsible,” she said, adding that her government remained committed to transparency, accountability and maintaining public trust.Gupta launched a sharp attack on Kejriwal after Public Development Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh released a video of ‘Sheesh Mahal’, saying the truth that had been “hidden for a long time” was now out in the open for all of Delhi to see.In the video, Singh takes a tour inside the bungalow, detailing its expensive interiors and various household items.Chief Minister Gupta said: “This is not just a building, it is living evidence of corruption, arrogance and betrayal of public trust and a symbol of moral decay.”She questioned the cost of renovation of the bungalow, saying the work, which initially cost around Rs 8 crore, had reportedly risen to nearly Rs 62 crore, a huge increase that indicated “serious financial irregularities”.She said the people of Delhi should watch the video and draw their own conclusions.“People have every right to know how their money is being used by the people they elect,” the First Minister said.
