New Delhi: A two-plane ground collision occurred at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday when a SpiceJet plane hit a stationary Alkasa Air plane while taxiing, causing damage to both aircraft.Officials said the collision occurred on the taxiway and the wings of the two planes came into contact, forcing both planes to be grounded for inspection.According to a SpiceJet spokesperson, on April 16, a B737-700 aircraft suffered a ground accident while taxiing. The plane’s right winglet struck the left horizontal stabilizer of another plane from another airline. The SpiceJet aircraft has since been grounded in Delhi for inspection.Meanwhile, Alkasa Air confirmed that its aircraft of flight QP 1406 from Delhi to Hyderabad was stationary at the time of the incident and was hit by another airline’s aircraft. After the collision, the aircraft returned to the bay.An Alkasa Air spokesperson said: “All passengers and crew have disembarked safely and our ground team is making alternative arrangements to fly passengers to Hyderabad at the earliest possible opportunity.”There were no reports of injuries and authorities are assessing the damage and investigating the incident and are awaiting further details.
