Senior defense officials and PSU BEL signed agreement on mountain radar in New Delhi on Tuesday
New Delhi: The Ministry of Defense has signed a major capital acquisition contract with PSU Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of two mountain radars, including associated equipment and infrastructure, for the Indian Air Force at a cost of approximately Rs 1,950 crore.The installation and commissioning of these radars will enhance the country’s air defense capabilities and enhance national security. The purchase will also reduce reliance on foreign equipment.These radars are designed and developed in-house by DRDO’s Electronics and Radar Development Establishment and will be manufactured by BEL.The contract, which falls under the procurement (Indigenous Design, Development and Manufacturing in India) category, was signed on March 31 in the presence of senior officials from the Ministry of Defense and BEL. This is the last capital acquisition contract of the past fiscal year.
