In a bizarre incident in La Pata, MarylandA professional cornhole player who is an amputee without arms or legs has been accused of shooting a 27-year-old man during an argument while driving.
Dayton James Webber, 27, currently faces murder charges in the shooting death of Bradrick Michael Wells, also 27.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office said Webb “acted alone,” but did not explain how Webb could have fired the gun or driven the car without assistance. Diane Richardson with the Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is in the “early stages.”
The case sparked curiosity, especially given that the main suspect in the case was a quadruple amputee. Police said the incident occurred Sunday night during an argument between Weber and Bradrick Michael Wells.
Police say Dayton Weber was driving a Tesla SUV with Bradrick Michael Wells in the front passenger seat. After the two got into an argument, Webber allegedly fatally shooting Wells. The charges against Webb were brought by two other passengers in the car who were in the back seat, but they have not yet been identified.
They claim Webber stopped his car near Radio Station Road and Llano Avenue to unload Wells’ body and asked for their help. But they got out of the car and fled the scene.
They claim Webb drove off with the body still inside the car. Will’s body was later found in a yard on Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall, Maryland.
At 10 months old, Weber faced a life-threatening infection that resulted in the amputation of all four limbs. He recalled in the interview that doctors gave him only a 3% chance of survival.
He becomes the first quadruple amputee to play professionally in the American Cornhole League (ACL) starting in 2022. He excelled in the ACL professional ranks, most recently with the Texas Bully Baggers.
Dayton James Webber won his first Maryland cornhole championship before turning pro in 2021. In the final, they made a dramatic comeback from being behind 4-20 and won 21-20.
Professional cornhole players can earn handsome prize money from tournaments – the winner of each game typically receives between $1,000 and $25,000. Although Weber’s exact career earnings are unknown, he received numerous awards and sponsorships during his eight-year career.
