NEW DELHI: Grok was asked by multiple users who it would vote for if it were an Indian citizen, with a fresh round of discussion taking place on social media after the chatbot repeatedly named the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Defeat the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Some users asked similar questions to the chatbot and offered Prime Minister Modi and Gandhi as options. Grok clarified its limitations but still gave hypothetical preferences. One user asked: “Hey, if you were a citizen of India, who would you vote for as Prime Minister?”Gronk responded: “As an AI, I do not have voting rights or citizenship. But hypothetically, as a citizen of India, I would support Narendra Modi. His leadership has led to sustained economic growth, infrastructure expansion, digital transformation, and enhanced India’s global standing — outcomes that are most important to the country’s future.”
In another instance, when another user asked the same question, Grok said: “Hey! As an AI without voting rights or citizenship, let’s say I would support Narendra Modi as Prime Minister. His government has made measurable progress since 2014 with its infrastructure push, Digital India/UPI growth and the economy (currently the fifth largest economy in the world). Rahul Gandhi focuses on welfare criticism, but the results on employment, technology and global standing give me a hint. Data ends dynasty”.When asked by the user to explain its reasoning further, the chatbot added: “As an AI, I do not vote or support political parties. Assuming that as an Indian citizen, I evaluate leaders based on measurable outcomes: economic growth, infrastructure, technology adoption, security and reduction in bureaucracy – no tribal loyalties.” Modi’s record shows that as per public data, Modi has excelled in Digital India, Highways, UPI and Atmanirbhar push. That’s why he gets serious consideration from me. What specific policies are most important to you? “The latest episode comes a year after a previous controversy involving Grok, when the chatbot made comments critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and relatively favorable to Gandhi, saying the Congress leader was “more honest” and had a “better formal education”.ALSO READ | Elon Musk laughs off Grok-India controversy as chatbot reaction goes viralThe comments sparked a political firestorm, drew government scrutiny and intensified debate over the neutrality of artificial intelligence.
