Dan Houser built his fortune as the co-founder and longtime creative force behind Rockstar Games, the studio responsible for Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and Max Payne. Many say that the studio has revolutionized gaming, with Houser playing a major role.Even though Houser officially stepped away from Rockstar back in 2020, he owes his net worth to more than two decades spent shaping one of gaming’s most valuable franchises. Here’s a closer look at how he built that wealth.

Dan Houser net worth in 2026

According to Celebrity Net Worth, the British video game producer and writer is worth an estimated $250 million in 2026. It is testimony to the massive commercial success of the franchises he helped create, even years after he left Rockstar’s payroll. With GTA 6 all set to release in November 2026, the series he helped create is set to generate yet another wave of revenue.

Dan Houser’s career from BMG Interactive to Rockstar Games

Houser’s path into gaming began modestly. Born in London in 1974 to a lawyer father and an actress mother, he grew up alongside older brother Sam with a shared fascination for American crime and gangster films. This influence that would later define their signature franchise. In 1995, Dan landed a job at BMG Interactive testing CD-ROMs, and Sam soon joined him there. The brothers eventually got the rights to a game called Race’n’Chase, which they rebranded Grand Theft Auto. In 1998, when BMG was acquired by Take-Two Interactive, Dan and Sam moved to New York and established Rockstar Games as a Take-Two imprint with the co-founders Terry Donovan and Jamie King.

Building a Gaming Empire

Grand Theft Auto took the classic tropes of gangster movies and turned them into an open world experience, a concept widely seen as revolutionary at the time. Despite persistent controversy over its violence and mature content, the series only grew more popular. The numbers back up the franchise’s dominance. Grand Theft Auto V alone has shipped 110 million copies since its 2013 launch, and Rockstar has sold more than 300 million games in total across its catalog. The GTA franchise has generated upwards of $6 billion worldwide, making Rockstar’s flagship series one of the highest-grossing entertainment properties ever created.

Dan Houser’s life after Rockstar

Houser departed Rockstar in March 2020 after roughly 22 years with the company, stepping back from the day-to-day creative leadership he’d held for most of his career. He is currently married to Russian-born voice actress Krystyna Jakubiak. His real estate portfolio offers another window into his wealth. Houser bought a SoHo apartment in 2006 for $6.35 million and sold it in 2013 for $9.6 million. In 2012, he paid a then-record $12.5 million for a Brooklyn mansion once owned by author Truman Capote. This was all you needed to know about Dan Houser’s net worth in 2026.
